prologue

Katha pov .

I was walking alone when I suddenly felt like someone was following me. I gulped and quickened my pace. The sound of footsteps behind me grew louder. My heart started pounding in fear.

Suddenly, I felt him come closer.

Without wasting a second, I instantly turned around with the sharp divider I was holding in my hand and was about to stab him when he grabbed my wrist tightly.

“Aap lawyer banne wali ho… aur crime bhi kar rahi ho?” he said in a teasing tone.

My heartbeat raced. It was night. The street was empty. There was no one around.

“Leave me!” I shouted.

But instead of letting go, his hand slowly moved toward my face. He traced his finger along my cheek. I turned my face away in disgust and clenched my teeth.

“Leaave meeee!” I screamed.

I stomped on his foot hard and pushed him back. Quickly, I pointed the divider at him and warned,

“Dur raho mujhse!”

He didn’t move. He just stood there, staring at me with those intense eyes.

Tears blurred my vision. I wiped them angrily and ran from there, constantly turning back to check if he was following me or not.

Shahmeer’s POV

I adjusted my sherwani and fixed my turban.

“Hamari begum tayyar hui ya nahi?” I asked the maid. She nodded.

As I stepped outside, everyone stared at me like I had betrayed them. I didn’t care.

If I want her, she is mine. That’s what Dada and Abbu taught me.

My Phuppo came rushing.
“Shahmeer, kyun kar rahe ho yeh nikaah? Aapko pata hai na in Thakuron—”

I stopped her.

“Woh aapka masla hai. Humein koi matlab nahi.”

And without looking back, I walked toward the place where she was waiting.

Author’s POV

Katha was sitting in her house, looking at her grandparents.

Her grandfather said,
“Yeh achha mauka hai, beta. Tumhe us neech insaan se chutkara mil jayega.”
(This is a good opportunity, child. You will get rid of that lowly man.)

Katha held her mangalsutra tightly, closed her eyes for a moment, then said firmly,
“I will choose the truth.”

Chanchal and Rakesh’s faces changed.

Katha stood up and said,
“Main unke liye ladungi. Main unki custody loongi, kyunki main jaanti hoon woh kisi ladki ki taraf nazar utha kar bhi nahi dekhenge.”
(I will fight for him. I will take his custody because I know he would never even look at another woman.)

She picked up her bag. Her parents smiled proudly and nodded.

Sitting in the car, she leaned back and looked at the ring engraved with SK. Tracing it softly, she whispered,

“Main aapko jail se nikal kar hi rahungi.”
(I will get you out of jail, no matter what.)

Katha’s POV

“After what my begum did, she definitely deserves a reward from her husband,” he said.

I smiled, cupped his face gently, and replied,
“Jab aap khud hi jail se bahar aa sakte the, toh mujhe apni lawyer kyun banaya?”
(When you could have come out of jail yourself, why did you make me your lawyer?)

He hid his face in the crook of my neck and whispered softly,
“Humein hamari begum ko ladte hue dekhna tha.”
(I wanted to see my wife fight for me.)

I smiled, feeling his hand rest on my waist. My eyes slowly closed.

“So desperate…” he murmured teasingly.

I ran my fingers through his hair and replied softly,
“For you.”

He pulled me closer, his voice low and possessive,
“Only for me.”

And my heartbeat quickened under his intense gaze.
